GENERAL INFORMATION.
TERMS and CONDITIONS
COST
(Adults
= $650.00 Students = $500.00):
All
prices are quoted in U.S. Dollars. They are based on tariffs, airfares,
accommodation rates, and rates of exchange quoted to Smiles Abroad Foundation
at the time of publication. These prices are expected to be in effect at the
time of departure; however, prices are subject to change without notice. Smiles
Abroad Foundation will make every effort to avoid price increases; however, any
changes in price made by the airlines, hotels, vendors, operators, etc., with
which Smiles Abroad Foundation has made arrangements, may be passed on to the
participants. If such rates change prior to departure, Smiles Abroad Foundation
is not under any obligation to pay extra expenses arising from unforeseen
circumstances, such as a change of itinerary or means of transportation, etc.
Extra charges are at the client’s expense and will require immediate
settlement.
REGISTRATION; DEPOSIT,
PAYMENT, AND CANCELATION:
Early
reservations are strongly recommended, and a deposit of $100 per person is
required at the time of booking. The remaining balance is due 15 days prior to
departure. Applications received after these dates should include full payment.
Any payments made 5 days prior to departure must be in the form of cash, a
cashier’s check or money order. Final documents (including airline tickets)
cannot be sent until final payment is received. Checks should be made payable
to SMILES ABROAD FOUNDATION. All applications are subject to approval by Smiles
Abroad Foundation and the expedition leader. All cancellation penalties are the
responsibility of the participant.
HEALTH:
THIS
IS NOT A VACATION! We advise each participant to have a physical checkup before
applying for the expedition. Smiles Abroad Foundation cannot be responsible for
illnesses that may occur while traveling. Since expedition projects and group
sightseeing can be physically taxing, we recommend that persons who suffer from
heart disease, high blood pressure, or any physical impairment which could
hinder them from normal participation contact Smiles Abroad Foundation prior to
submitting an application and have their doctor mail us a letter stating that
they have received a recent checkup and are able to participate in this program.
INSURANCE:
Smiles
Abroad Foundation is not an insuring agent and is not responsible for any
injury to your person.
Participants
may wish to purchase separately coverage for protection against many unforeseen
circumstances, including comprehensive health, automobile insurance.
Smiles
Abroad Foundation is not responsible for any loss, theft, or damage to your
belongings. Information on baggage insurance will be sent to participants.
TRAVEL DOCUMENTS:
Participants
are encouraged to carry a valid passport. A Driver License and original Birth
Certificate will get you through the border, but we have found that it is
quicker and easier when you have a passport.
Participants will be provided with information concerning passports
and/or tourist cards, visas, and immunizations where needed, but obtaining them
are the responsibility of the applicant.
ACCOMMODATIONS: We seek to provide
well-located accommodations (not always in the center of the city)
representative of the area, which provide typical cuisine; clean, pleasant
rooms with bathrooms; friendly service; and efficient management. The class of
hotel, etc., is consistent with the price category of the expedition. In some
rural project areas expedition participants will sleep in tents and/or other rustic
encampments without permanent bathroom facilities or heating. Expedition
participants should make themselves fully aware of the living conditions
provided with each expedition before applying.
ROOMMATES:
Single
people may sign up for accommodations on a share basis and will be assigned
roommates if circumstances permit. If a roommate is unavailable, the
participant will be notified of the adjusted price (single supplement) prior to
departure.
ITEMS NOT INCLUDED:
Items
of a personal nature, such as excess baggage or porterage charges; personal,
trip, or baggage insurance; room service; laundry; phone calls; bottled
drinking water; food or beverages not part of the group menu; gratuities for
services; passports; immunization fees; etc.
NOTICE:
Smiles
Abroad Foundation reserves the right to make changes or substitutions in the
interest of the expedition in order to meet unexpected situations, such as
increases in fares and accommodation rates, airline failures, changes in
currency rates, etc. Additional charges or refunds will be made to participants
where applicable. However, no refund will be made for accommodations or
services, included in the price, which are not utilized during the program by
the participant. We reserve the right to cancel the program, if deemed
necessary for reasons including insufficient program participation and
circumstances beyond Smiles Abroad Foundation’s control, such as strikes,
lockouts, riots, wars, or Acts of God. In such an event, Smiles Abroad
Foundation shall have no responsibility, beyond the partial refund of deposits
and monies paid to Smiles Abroad Foundation by the participants. A refund will
then be made to participants, within 30 days, by means of a bank check.

By
signing this agreement, participants release and grant permission to Smiles
Abroad Foundation and its associates to use the participant’s name, image and
likeness, obtained before, during or after the expedition, for the Foundation’s
promotion and advertising purposes, at no cost to Smiles Abroad Foundation.
This release includes the use of still photographs, videotape, film, audio
